Lying in bed this morning with Nicola reflecting on an eventful year – the most real awakening was our son’s wake-up cry!
When I think back to January 1, 2011 we were lying in the same bed contemplating starting a family and here we are on the other end… only it is the third apartment we have lived in since then, the CFA ghosts of early risings and sleepless nights have been put to rest – finally, Nicola has done six international trips for work on three continents whilst carrying little Harrison, we lived through a flood (in our apartment) and an earthquake, there were marathons and triathlons, the lows of losing a job overshadowed by the excitement of an awesome new opportunity, special time with family in New York and abroad, our first Christmas with little Harrison, and finally more packing as we head across the seas to peg it all up again in London. I envisioned us staying in New York long-term and the feeling in my stomach says this is not “goodbye” but rather “see you again”…We will miss the dear friends we have made and will cherish the moments.
With a New Year come new challenges, a new chapter and a chance to both rekindle old flames and set fire to new ones. There has certainly been more change than perhaps we’d have liked but I also see more opportunity than ever.
The goals have been set, the wild elephant mounted.
Find your mountains and get climbing!
From the Comrades Website…awesome stuff – I hope to experience this come June 3, 2012:
“Later I join my friend Tim Noakes as he reflects: ‘I know why this is all necessary,’ he says ‘what common bond unites all Comrades runners. It is the need to look for the mountains in life. Skill, you see, is not our requirement, nor has your race got anything to do with winning or losing. These are the spoils of other lesser games, unable to transport you to the places we have been.’ “
